Few Apple TV models get tvOS 15
In the autumn of 2021, Apple will release all major updates to tvOS, iOS, iPadOS, macOS and watchOS.
However, not all models receive the new updates.
Apple is generally really good at updating even older products. If you have a newer iPhone or iPad, you are almost guaranteed to get iOS 15 and iPadOS 15.
For Apple TV, it’s a little different. There are not very many models, and only three of them are updated.
And it is as follows:
- Apple TV HD (4th Generation)
- Apple TV 4K (2017)
- Apple TV 4K (2021)
It is worth mentioning that even though tvOS 15 can be installed on Apple TV HD, the model does not support all new features in the latest tvOS.
For example, you can not use the HomePod Mini as a speaker for your Apple TV HD. It is reserved for the two newer models.

Try the beta version of tvOS 15
If you do not want to wait for Apple to release the finished version this fall, you can try a beta version. It’s unfinished software, so you may encounter bugs along the way.
