A new report indicates that Apple may release a new iPad Pro model in April. The new model will be released in sizes 11 and 12.9 inches respectively and have an Apple M1-rated processor with much higher performance than today’s models.
The Bloomberg website reports on the upcoming iPad Pro model. According to their article, the design and screen size are identical to the existing iPad Pro 2018 and 2020. The difference is the screen type and what is on the inside.
The first big news should be one new, improved processor which is much more powerful than the A12X / Z processor that sits in existing iPad Pro models. It should be so fast that it matches the M1 processor in Macbook Air, Pro and Mac Mini. If that’s true, it’s really a big boost for the iPad Pro series.
Another improvement should be mini-LED for the screen in at least the larger 12.9-inch variant. These improvements will make the screen brighter, more energy efficient and have improved contrast ratio.
Finally, the new models potentially have one Thunderbolt port, just like Apple’s later Macs.

It allows for faster data transfer and improved support with external monitors and other accessories. With the 2018 and 2020 iPad Pro, USB-C is used, which admittedly works, but it is not as powerful as Thunderbolt. According to Bloomberg should not need a new charger despite the transition.
If the news in Bloomberg’s article is true, it will be an extreme boost for the iPad Pro series, but in that case the question is what the price tag will be. The larger 12.9-inch version of the iPad Pro 2020 had a starting price of SEK 12,500 at launch and if Apple makes major improvements, that figure could rise sharply.
