We rank and review the best tablets, from iPad to Android with a little bit of Windows thrown in. These are buy the best tablet 2023 you can buy right now.
Which tablet is the best you can buy
Generally, tablets offer the best value. You can use them to watch films, send emails, browse the web, and even make music. If your phone’s screen size is just too small for you and you don’t want a laptop. Then a tablet is a perfect companion.
There are many great tablets out there iPads are obvious choices. But there are several others we recommend depending on your needs, budget, and taste in design. In addition to great tablets, there are also terrible ones but be assured that none of these features were considered in our ranking chart.
Best Tablets 2023
1. Apple iPad Air (2020) – Overall, best.
The iPad Air 2020, Apple’s mid-range tablet ditches the old design for something new and modern.
It can’t quite compete with the 120Hz ProMotion display or Face ID of the Pro range, but if you don’t mind being without them, the Air is the only Pro you’ll need.
A great design, Touch ID, bright colour options, a gorgeous high-resolution full-screen display – though with larger bezels than the Pro model – and compatibility with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil is yours.
The A14 Bionic from the iPhone 12 series is a beast that can handle anything you throw at it with no problem, and while it isn’t quite as powerful as the iPad Pro range, it’s more than enough for most people.
While the price hike is hard to swallow, if you can justify the extra expense, you’re essentially getting an iPad Pro in an Air’s casing.

Apple iPad Air Review
2. iPad 10.2in (2020) – Productive
Although it may look like every iPad from the past few years, Apple has once again produced a tablet that is very hard to complain about.
There’s not much here to entice owners of the 7th generation iPad, but it has a lot to offer if you’re switching from a previous generation iPad or want to try iPad for the first time.
This time, Apple has equipped the 10.2-inch screen with a brighter display and upgraded the A10 chip to the A12 Bionic, which offers significant performance gains compared to the 2019 iPad and many Android tablets on the market.
Even at a low price, iPadOS is maturing and has truly elevated Apple’s slate range above the competition. The only complaint? The 32GB of storage on the entry-level model – if you can, go for the larger 128GB version, if possible.
Aside from storage, this is a great all-rounder tablet, and a good buy if you want to use an Apple Pencil.

3. iPad Pro 12.9in (2020) – Ideal for artists
- From $999
Apple’s latest iPad Pro is one of the most powerful tablets available right now, with the new A12Z chipset beating just about all competitors in benchmark tests, but it’s also one of the most expensive options.
While the huge 12.9in 120Hz display is great for graphic design work, watching movies, and browsing social media, its true potential comes into focus when paired with the Magic Keyboard.
The iPad Pro is Apple’s best tablet, but if you don’t plan to use the large display and powerful internals, you’d probably be better off with a regular iPad or the iPad Air.

4. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ – The best mobile device for Android
- From $872.99
With its excellent stereo speakers and in-display fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy Tab S7+ is Samsung’s most accomplished tablet to date. It also nails the fundamentals in terms of display, performance, and design.
In addition, you get a decent set of cameras and the S-Pen stylus in the package, but the software is lacking. Most apps on Google Play aren’t optimized for Android tablets, so you just get scaled-up versions without additional functionality.
Even with such shortcomings, the Tab S7+ does become harder to recommend when compared to the iPadOS.

5. Lenovo Tab P11 Pro – A great way to entertain yourself
- From $499.99
Its superb display, solid quad-speaker setup, and respectable battery life, the Lenovo Tab P11 Pro is an excellent option for media-lovers.
The Lenovo Precision Pen 2 and dedicated keyboard cover widen the Tab’s appeal, too.
It’s a good alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S series. If not for the fact that it’s a little underpowered and the UI quirks we encountered during testing.

6. Apple iPad Air (2019) – Great value for money
Though the 2020 model ups the ante, the Air is still an attractive machine with a large, well-specced screen, long battery life, and a sleek design. Users will appreciate features such as the characteristic Home button and the inclusion of a headphone jack.
All those goodies make it a good slate, but those on a tight budget will be better served by the iPad 10.2in, and the Pro may be better for the creative professional.

7. Microsoft Surface Pro 7 – Install on Windows
When combined with the Type Cover case, the Surface Pro 7 doubles as a decent laptop, though it takes a lot of effort to use it on your lap.
With improved internals and graphics, the Surface Pro 7 is definitely more powerful than the Pro X, but it’s also a huge step forward from the Surface Pro 6. It’s not a gaming laptop, though, so you have other options if you wish to go that route.
If you really need the portability and flexibility of the 2-in-1, then the Pro 7 is a good buy, but there are more powerful laptops at a similar price if you’re seeking more processing grunt.

8. Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite – Highly adaptable
- From $318
The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is more of a basic productivity and entertainment tablet than a laptop replacement, so its strengths are its lightweight design, its affordable price, and as a great note-taking tool.
That said, it’s not the only contender in the mid-range tablet space; Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S5e still outperforms the S6 Lite in a few key areas, albeit at a higher price.

9. Apple iPad Mini (2019) – The most compact
A12 processor and affordable base price make this Apple’s smallest tablet an affordable computer. The iPad Mini proves that this form factor is still desirable and useful, even in an age of larger smartphones.
Apple has breathed new life into the iPad Mini by adding the Apple Pencil support and decent battery life. Not everyone wants or needs to spend $1,000+ on an iPad Pro.

11. iPad Pro 10.5 (2017)
iPad Pro 10.5-inch is one of the best tablets for anyone who wants a serious upgrade, even though the cheaper iPad 10.2 is still good enough for most people.
Apple’s iPad Pro 10.5 has a number of standout features that make it incredibly productive, including Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard compatibility. With iPadOS on board, this tablet could even be a laptop replacement for some consumers.
With the ProMotion display, you’re seeing far more display in a footprint smaller than the iPad Pro 9.7.

Best tablets for 2023: Your buying guide
Although Apple has a stronghold on the tablet market there are great alternatives from Samsung, Huawei, and Amazon, and Microsoft’s Surface has full Windows.
What tablet should I buy: Android, Windows or iOS?
Check out our best cheap tablets under $100 article if you’re on a tight budget. If you are looking for a tablet for your kid, check out the Dell XP 2020.
You have four main choices: an iPad, an Android tablet, an Amazon Fire tablet or a Windows tablet.
People prefer the iPadOS operating system because it’s easy to use and app creators generally make it their top choice, so you’re pretty much guaranteed to find what you’re looking for if you have an iPhone, you’ll also be familiar with it.
If you buy gadgets that require apps – such as smart home or fitness gadgets – you might not be able to control them from a Windows tablet.
Apps can be made available on Android as well iPads, as well as some Samsung tablets that cost the same or more, and Android tablets, can be cheaper than iPads but some Samsung models are more expensive than iPads.
This device runs the same programs as your PC or laptop – not just as many finger-friendly tablet apps as you’re used to on a phone or an iPad.
Windows tablets with a keyboard are like a laptop and a tablet in one, but you don’t get the best of both worlds with most of them. One exception is the Surface Pro from Microsoft.
An affordable option is the Amazon Fire tablet, iIt is based on Android but locked into Amazon’s system, so you won’t be able to use any Google apps.
