How to restart HomePod & HomePod Mini

Has your HomePod or HomePod Mini started behaving strangely? You may notice that Siri no longer responds or that the smart speaker does not play any sound at all. Then it’s time for a restart.

Whether it is a bug in the software or something else that is having problems, a lot can be solved with a reboot. It normally only takes a few minutes and is easy to do.

The first thing you might think when you hear that HomePod and HomePod Mini can be restarted is that they do not have an on / off button. So how can you restart your smart speaker?

It’s simple – you just use the Home app on your iPhone or iPad. How to use.

  1. Launch the built-in Home app on your mobile device
  2. Navigate to the home screen and long press on your HomePod to restart
  3. Once in the smart speaker settings, scroll all the way down to “Reset HomePod”
  4. Select the “Restart HomePod” option

It’s not harder than that. Should you happen to reset your smart speaker, you can easily add it again just like the first time you did it.

It only takes a few seconds to restart a HomePod speaker.
When the LED lighting is on, it is ready for use.

If your HomePod or HomePod Mini does not respond at all, either on a button or via the mobile app, you may need to do a so-called “hard reboot”.

This simply means that you unplug it for a few seconds and reconnect the power cord. It’s just something you should do if the speaker does not respond at all.
