Is Instagram really the top social media site? A new report from Socialbakers suggests yes. The website says Facebook is still the most popular social media network in the U.S. for every age group. Still, the numbers are changing.
Socialbakers studied how people used Facebook and other social networks in the U.
and found that Instagram saw the biggest increase in the number of users between July and September of 2018.
Facebook is now being used by over 42% of U.S. users, up from 39% this time last year. Instagram is now being used by over 22% of U.S. users, up from 20% this time last year. Twitter saw the biggest drop, with usage by 12% over the last year.
Socialbakers also found a rising trend for online shopping. Consumer shopping continues to increase with about half of American adults now using some form of online retail platform.
Camera phones
the technology that first made the shift from desktop to smartphone, is being used more and more to take photos and share them online.
The latest report is a new data point to take into account for marketers who use social media platforms, or advertisers who want to reach people on these platforms.
Alina Mungiu-Pippidi, a professor of economics at the University of Bucarest, says online marketing techniques are not going to change much in the next couple of years. “What’s more important is how users and companies are going to interact,” said Mungiu-Pippidi. “So we should all pay more attention to it, be more human and also more humble.”
Whatever social media giants, like Facebook and Instagram, try to do, it’s only going to matter if they make the right changes.
