Losing everything on your phone was not a big deal before the smartphone years. Wondering how to change iPhones or iPads successfully, without losing anything in the process? Your photos, contacts, videos, message history, music, calendars, email accounts, and many of your apps can be transferred from your previous device to new ones. Explain the steps below.
1. Save Your Old iPhone or iPad
First, you need to back up your old device, which you can do with iCloud or your computer.
Using Cloud
Make sure your device is connected to Wi-Fi. Then go into your iPhone or iPad settings and click your name at the top, which will take you to your Apple ID page. Depending on the model you have, you will select Cloud> Cloud Backup> Backup Now, or after clicking on your Apple ID page, you will see a list of devices that your ID has entered. If so, click on your iPhone or iPad. From there, select iCloud Backup, open it, click Backup Now, and allow your device to back up while on Wi-Fi. You may need to set up your new device to automatically back up the backup copy daily, but note that Apple only allows you to save 5 GB for free.
Using a Mac
Connect your iPhone or iPad to your MacBook or iMac and open Finder. On the left, you should see your device appear under Places. You can access all your stored data, from music and podcasts to photos and files. If your photos are stored in iCloud, they will not appear here unless you turn off that feature. Under the General tab, you can select Back Now. To back up your Health and Work data, select your backup encryption option, or it will not be saved; not saving encrypted Health and Work data is a default feature of privacy. All iCloud backups are encrypted automatically.
Using Windows Computer
You will need to download iTunes for Windows and connect your iPhone or iPad to your laptop or desktop via USB. Click the iPhone / iPad button at the top left of the iTunes window, then go to Summary> Backup Now. Encrypt your backup copy by clicking Encrypt local backup and set a password. Encoding allows you to back up your Health and Work data, too. To get your backup, click Edit> Favorites> Devices. Apple is also taking steps here.
2. Change SIM
Once you have made a complete backup copy, it is time to replace the SIM cards. You can also do this step after setting up your new iPhone repair, if you do not want to miss any calls or messages during the process. Slightly pushing a SIM tool or paperclip into the hole of the SIM tray will help you unlock it. The SIM card has one slanted side, which you can connect to the SIM tray of your new iPhone.
3. Unlock Your New Device
You are ready to unlock the new device. The next section depends on the iOS or iPadOS version of your old running device.
NOTE: Before you use the methods, using the Google Authenticator app you should be careful not to remove this app from their old iPhone until you have moved the new accounts or you may lose access. There are some Google’s instructions for transferring authentication codes to a new phone that you should follow.
4. Make sure your Wi-Fi connection is stable
Do not interrupt the Wi-Fi connection until the backup is complete. Disconnecting early will cause your backup to pause until you reconnect. The same thing applies when you restore by connecting your device as a modem to Windows 10 PC or Mac — leave your phone or tablet connected until done.
